More than 170 programs and 160 exhibitors from 26 countries are waiting for the visitors at the 25th International Book Festival in Budapest, which begins today at Millenáris Park.Special guest of the book festival is going to be Daniel Kehlman, German writer this year. The Budapest Award will be handed over to the author by Alexandra Szalay-Bobrovniczky, deputy mayor of Budapest (human affairs) and Katalin Gál,president of the Association of Hungarian Publishers and Book Traders (MKKE).
Daniel Kehlman, the “prodigy” of contemporary German literature, was born in Munich in 1975, and now he is living in Vienna and Berlin. His novels and essay-books at the age of twenty-five had a very positive response from both critics and the audience in Germany. However, his world-famous novel entitled Measuring the World brought him the greatest success. Only in Germany, 2.3 million copies have been sold and it was translated to Hungarian and 45 other languages. Critics praise the novel’s sophistication, tremendous material knowledge, intelligence and humor.
Another special guest of the book festival will be the country of Serbia: there will be many professional programs, book presentations and stage discussions in connection with the South Slavic country.
One of the most prominent events of the festival – that lasts until Sunday – is the European Initial Book Festival, which has 18 participants the year.
