Ákos Kriza, Former Mayor of Miskolc, Has Passed Away

Ákos Kriza died after fighting an illness for a very long time, Fidesz reported on their Facebook page on Tuesday.

He had been the mayor of Miskolc for nine years between 2000 and 2019.

According to the announcement of the Miskolc mayor’s office, Ákos Kriza died on Tuesday and was 56 years old.

The former mayor was born in Oradea in 1965, graduated from the Medical University of Târgu Mureş and the Faculty of Economics of the University of West Hungary, where he started his career as a doctor-economist and health manager. He settled in Miskolc in 1990, after receiving his general medical degree. After passing his specialist examination for otolaryngology, he worked at the Diósgyőr Hospital as a clinical doctor and then continued his work as a family doctor. From 1999 he was the medical director of the Miskolc Health Center of the Railway Health Corporation until his election as mayor in 2010.

On behalf of the city of Miskolc, Mayor Pál Veres offered to consider Ákos Kriza as the municipality’s own dead and provide him a special graveyard.
